Student attendance is something that is getting much attention these days. It is easy to say that we can't teach children if they are not here, but it is often hard for a parent to make a child come to school when they say they do not feel good. There are several issues to consider when looking at school attendance:
1. Children need to learn to value education. Children who are allowed to miss school when they do not feel great, or when they don't want to go, or for vacations, soon learn that going to school is not very important. Then, when they are older, they are often more at risk for skipping school or dropping out of school.
2. One of our accountability measures is school attendance. We have to have 95% attendance to meet state requirements. If we do not meet this requirement, then our school could be required to go through certain improvement measures.
3. Learning builds on things previously taught. What is taught today will be needed for things taught later. Missing school makes it harder for your child to learn the necessary material.
Please make every effort to have your child in school each day all day.
Students are considered tardy at 8:00 a.m. All students arriving after 8:00 a.m. must be accompanied by an adult to check the student in at the front office. Non-medical tardies will be considered unexcused.
Perfect Attendance Awards - We value the efforts that our students and parents make to insure that the students are here every day. Students that have not missed any part of a school day are awarded a perfect attendance certificate at the end of each semester. Check-ins and check-outs count against the perfect attendance certificate. Our goal is to have every student here by the beginning of each day and that they remain in the school throughout the entire day.
